The Process
You want your story to captivate readers, leave a lasting impression, and be as strong as it can be. But you've looked over your manuscript countless times and can't quite pinpoint what your story needs to take it to the next level. Editing is meant to bridge the divide between your current written work and a polished, professional final product.
Before diving into edits, I'll take the time to understand your specific goals and priorities for your story. Editing, after all, isn’t about rewriting your book—it’s about strengthening your story's vision and fine-tuning the details while preserving your unique voice and style. My approach focuses on providing constructive, industry-informed feedback and identifying areas in your manuscript that could be enhanced or provide a richer reader experience. When appropriate, I’ll provide examples of how a proposed change might be worded or structured within a scene, taking any guesswork out of the process. My goal is to deliver editing solutions that are clear, actionable, and supportive so you can approach revisions with confidence.
If you write fiction, nonfiction, or children’s books and are ready to take your manuscript to the next level, I'm here to help.

Editing Services
Developmental Editing - 3.8 cents per word (your word count multiplied by .038) - This package is the most in-depth, giving your manuscript the attention described in the "Line Editing" and "Proofreading" packages below, along with providing feedback on pacing, author intrusion/info dumps, echoed words, causality, awkward narrative, overwriting, word choice, etc. For fiction manuscripts, this package will also evaluate your hook (opening), POV errors, believability, dialogue, showing vs. telling, effective foreshadowing, and so on.
Line Editing - 3.2 cents per word (your word count multiplied by .032) - This package is similar to a copyedit, ensuring consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, capitalization, and checking for all the issues listed in the "Proofreading" package below. I'll make sure your manuscript is easy to follow, conveys the proper sense of emotion and tone, and that omitted words/phrases, inconsistencies, and repetitions are addressed.
Proofreading - 2.4 cents per word (your word count multiplied by .024) - I will go through your manuscript looking only for grammar, punctuation errors, word usage, verb tense, sentence structure, idioms, and formatting.

Take your manuscript to the publishing level.
About A. E. SchwartzI began my career as a professional editor in 2011, during which time I edited fiction and nonfiction titles for Destiny Image Publishers. Years later, I worked alongside bestselling thriller author Steven James (editing his titles Every Deadly Kiss and Every Wicked Man). In 2018, I expanded my reach into freelance editing and now regularly coach fiction and nonfiction authors on the craft of writing.
Whether you're trying to craft more engaging dialogue, organize your self-help book, or figure out why the tension seems to be draining from your manuscript, I offer a range of services to help you pinpoint what your manuscript needs and how to improve it. |
